Saturday, April 16, You're invited to the Plaza Branch Open House
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be stories, music and dance presented by the Plaza Children's staff in the children's program area. Hallmark's Kaleidoscope will help Plaza kick off the new Children's Creation Station Craft Area in the afternoon and kids can make bookmarks.
The new facility has a special place for teens and teens only! During the Open House, there will be activities throughout the day, including airbrush tattoos, a scavenger hunt from 3-5 p.m. and several games and chances to win Manga t-shirts. A class at Paseo Performing Arts Academy designed Teen Scene logos and presented them to Library staff. Teen Advisory youth and Library staff have made a choice and the new logo will be unveiled Saturday. Staff will also be around to talk about the Teen Advisory Board, Chess Club and lots of other cool stuff!
And, for the adults who come on Saturday, there will be, of course, all the books and other materials as well as Friends of the Library and Young Friends membership sign up. There will be a great display on the Kansas City Public Library branch system and a Getting to know your Plaza staff display to introduce new staff and in some cases welcome back the staff you knew at the former and Interim location. At 1:30 p.m., Dan Coleman, librarian for the Missouri Valley Special Collections department will present a multimedia presentation of the history and development of the branch system.
