Set them free…your books, that is

The Central Library of the Kansas City Public Library, 10th and Baltimore St., is holding its first annual teen Bookcrossing party, Saturday July 17 at 1:30 pm.

Book trading has never been more exciting, more serendipitous, than with BookCrossing. The goal of Bookcrossing is, simply, to make the whole world a library. Ron Hornbaker, creator of the Bookcrossing Web site (listed by PC Magazine as one of the 100 Best Undiscovered Web Sites for 2004) will be at the Central Library’s Saturday event to share a multimedia presentation about the three “R’s” of the book exchange:

  1. Read a good book.
  2. Register it on the Bookcrossing Website (, get a unique BCID (BookCrossing ID number), and label the book.
  3. Release it for someone else to read (give it to a friend, leave it on a park bench, donate it to charity, "forget" it in a coffee shop, etc.), and get notified by email each time someone goes to the Bookcrossing site and records journal entries for that book.

Visit Central Youth Service’s Bookcrossing profile at to see what books the Library will be giving away Saturday, July 17 at 1:30 p.m.  The event is free and all ages are invited to discover what Bookcrossing is about.  Reading material will be available for young adults and adults during this fun event.  For more information contact Central Youth Services at 816-701-3400 extension 4225.
